Take Action Burlington - A Community Climate Change Summit

Thursday, May 6 2010

Take Action Burlington is Burlington's first Community Climate Change summit. The event, held at the Royal Botanical Gardens on Thursday, May 6, 2010, aims to bring together local residents, businesses and community leaders to discuss climate change at the local level.

Jeffrey Simpson, Globe & Mail columnist and co-author of Hot Air: Canada's Climate Change Challenge, will speak to why we in Burlington should be concerned about climate change. Mike Holmes, Canada's Most Trusted Contractor and host of Holmes Inspection and Holmes on Homes™ on HGTV, will speak about his mission to Make it Right®, including his eco-friendly building projects in New Orleans and Southwest Alberta.

Presentations will cover the importance of healthy communities and sustainable transportation, green buildings and renewable energy, and energy conservation. Examples of local sustainable actions already taking place in Burlington will also be highlighted. Summit participants will then work together in roundtable sessions to identify how we as individuals and a community can build on existing initiatives and take action to make a difference.
