Gerry Smallegange among three Burlington business leaders to join BEDC Board of Directors

Burlington, April 23, 2010 -- The Burlington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) elected three new business leaders to its Board of Directors yesterday at the organization’s Annual General Meeting. The Board provides strategic direction to the organization and the development and delivery of the City’s economic development program. BEDC is governed by a 20 member Board of Directors representing a diverse cross section of the Burlington business community. Joining the BEDC Board are:

-Gerry Smallegange, President & CEO, Burlington Hydro Electric Inc.
-Angela Jaques, Director, Global Support Services, VMware
-Pat McKay, Director of Finance, L-3 Wescam Communications

“We are pleased to welcome three new business leaders to our Board of Directors”, said Mark Gregory, Chair of the Burlington Economic Development Corporation. “BEDC has always been fortunate to attract some of the best business talent from the Burlington business community. BEDC and the community will benefit from our new members seasoned expertise, business know how, and far reaching business networks. As a team, we will continue to position the City of Burlington as one of the most dynamic economies in Southern Ontario.”

The new Board members are filling places resulting from the departure of: David MacPhee, Partner, Deloitte and Touche LLP; David Collie, Past President, Burlington Hydro and Guy Payette, President, Innomar Strategies.

“Our retiring Board members are commended for the contribution they have made to the Burlington community and BEDC” said Kyle Benham, Executive Director, BEDC. “I have been privileged to work with a strong Board of Directors that is involved and committed to supporting economic development initiatives throughout the City. The BEDC Board is an active and diverse group with expertise in the multiple areas of business, education, municipal government and community development.”

Representation on the BEDC Board includes leading-edge community business executives along with McMaster University, Mohawk College. Mayor Cam Jackson, Burlington City Councillors Craven and Dennison also sit on the Board.
